The smartest people I’ve met:  They retrain their minds to enjoy being wrong.  They get a dopamine hit when proven wrong because they’re excited to be closer to the truth. The truth is addictive.  In contrast, if you refuse to lose a debate, your brain keeps running old firmware.  (I realized this after comparing humble versus tribalist people arguing on Twitter. Personally, to be comfortable being wrong, I needed to appreciate that being occasionally wrong doesn’t make me look dumb to people I admire. People judge you more on your trailing average of thoughts than on the last thing you said. And good friends don’t care either way.) Learn to enjoy being proven wrong
Coaching is not the same thing as giving advice. Coaching is strategic advice giving. It’s about helping people improve their thinking—not solving problems for them. Don’t hand them your answers wrapped in a question, e.g. don’t say “Have you thought about doing…” That’s not strategic. Instead, ask questions to guide them there. One way to start is by asking them two questions: “How can I support you?” → Forces them to think through how to best use your time and theirs. “What do you ultimately want?” → Forces them to think through which obstacle matters most. Focus on that. Do not tackle everything at once.
