Even though I know I should put myself out so that people can see me I still push off those tasks when they come up on my todo list. I’ve never reflected on why this might be, but today I was looking to see if there is a book on the topic and noticed this Harvard Business Review article about Saavy Self Promotion. https://hbr.org/2021/05/savvy-self-promotion. In the summary for the article it mentioned the following quote:

You need people to notice your growth and accomplishments while also enjoying your company. But if you draw attention to the value you’ve created, to ensure that managers and peers recognize it, you risk coming across as a shameless self-promoter. No one likes a braggart.

It’s obvious now in hindsight, but I had never thought about how being accused of bragging as a child could lead to my resistance to being publicly boisterous.
